Christi Family is a blog and local family resource for Corpus Christi and surrounding areas of the coastal bend.Created by a family of five, we blog about everything that matters to us. We invite you to read about our journey as we catalogue our thoughts about Family Matters, Fun Matters, Home Matters, Faith Matters, School Matters, and other things that Just Matter (at least to us). We’re exploring Corpus Christi and are providing you with what we find. Whether you’re looking for local resources, wanting to find local events geared just for families, or are wanting a  quick reference guide on everything local, this might just be the place for you and yours.  We’re filling our pages with resources for mom’s, kids, visitors, newbies, and families in general. As we continue our adventures in life, we’ll also continue our exploration of what we can do with this site and hopefully you'll benefit! Our focus is family, it’s that simple. You won’t find business meetings listed on our calendars, instead you’ll see calendars for families, toddlers, or just parents. It’s your choice!   Join the fun! Let us know what you’d like to see or what you think we should explore! We’ll share our thoughts!
Memorial Day

05/31/2010 04:07 PM

Most kids are not in school today because it is Memorial Day. So, when my kids found out they had to do studies, they weren't too thrilled! Not that I really blame them because I probably would have felt the same way. After all, most other Corpus Christi kids are probably having fun with their families. That is, after all, what many families do during this holiday. Still, once they started their studies, they realized that today's studies were all about Memorial Day and had a change of heart!

You see, today, we got to talk about their Great Grandpa Roman, who served in WWII. They said a prayer for him and for all those soldiers who have served in the past, who are serving now, and who gave the ultimate sacrifice for us to enjoy our everyday freedom.  They learned that Great Grandpa Roman was drafted in the war after the Pearl Harbor attack. He served in the Navy from 1942 to 1945. He went to battle, saw heavy fire, and lost a best friend and shipmates. He won 5 medals and was awarded the purple heart (although that honor came after his death).

They also learned that today there are still many men and women who put their lives on the line for us to enjoy our lives and they learned that it is important to honor them for their courage and bravery.

We made Memorial Day Crafts which taught them about the holiday. They made Flag Windsocks, made a Memorial Day mini book, colored the flag, and read all about the Holiday. They learned about what happens on Memorial Day, about the symbols of America, and they listened to patriotic songs. After all was said and done, they were happy with their schoolwork today. They were satisfied. I think we all felt that the lessons we learned today, were lessons that they will remember for the rest of their lives. They were lessons on the legacy left by all the brave men and women who fight for our freedom.

So, from our family to all those men and women who have worn the uniforms of our armed forces, we thank you!
