You won’t find business meetings listed on our calendars, instead you’ll see calendars for families, toddlers, or just parents. It’s your choice!   Join the fun! Let us know what you’d like to see or what you think we should explore! We’ll share our thoughts!
Pretzels

03/11/2010 11:56 PM

We had a great time this evening even if it was a little late to be eating homemade pretzels, but the kids really were happy to be a part of it and it turned out to be a really, fun and meaningful family time together.

We always try to incorporate additional ways to teach our kids about our religion. Recently, I wrote about ways to supplement lessons for the season of Lent. One of the things we have heard about is making Lenten pretzels. The history of this practice goes way back to the early church, but the story goes that a young monk was making a lenten bread and decided to form the bread of strips into crossed arms to mimick prayer. Another popular story is that the young monk gave these children pretzels as a reward for knowing their prayers.

As we have been reviewing different things with the children, this is one thing they really wanted to do because they love helping in the kitchen. Finally today, we got to it. It was a little late in the evening, but definitely worth it.

The kids and us parents had a blast! When my daughter dropped flour all over herself and on the floor, she got a little worried, because she thought we'd be upset. But we quickly let her know that we weren't worried about a little flour on the floor and the result was a blast and some yummy (but a little too salty) pretzels.

The best part of the night was right before we bit into them. The kids said their prayers, smiled away, and said 'let's do it again!'

It was great!
