Spring cleaning because of IKEA            07/14/2010 10:32 PM

Spring cleaning in summer? When you say those words, you can hardly believe it. After all, the season of summer doesn't necessarily bring thoughts of moving out your furniture, going through your stuff, dusting, throwing out or donating the old, possibly painting, and simplifying your cluttered life does it? Well, surprisingly enough, for us, it kind of does. Why would we forgo the swimming, the basking in the sun (or as we say in Texas, 'baking in the sun'), beach visits, or just enjoying our nice air conditioned home in order to sweat, dust, and work so hard? Well, for us it's all because of IKEA.

See, if you're anything like me, you're always looking for a simpler, better, more functional way of doing things. In addition, if you're like me, you probably don't have the extra cash to follow up on those really great ideas that pop into your head! So, when when you have a chance to go to a city that actually has an IKEA store, you put the wheels in motion and you figure out a way to get your honey to take you there for that must-have, simple, yet functional, but most importantly affordable item that will make your life so much better!

In my case, while visiting with my in-laws in Elgin, TX, I couldn't help but to hint to my husband that we should take a much needed trip to the IKEA store in Round Rock, TX. Afterall, there was something there I really needed and I wanted to see if they had it. So, he did and I found what I wanted and we purchased it and now, we're spring cleaning our homeschool (office) room, in order to properly use it. What does that mean for us?

It means, moving our desks, shelves, computer, books, etc. out of our homeschool room and making changes; we're cleaning, we're dusting, we're patching holes, we're sanding, we're painting magnetic paint on parts of the wall, and we're re-organizing. It also means that there's an extra desk and bookshelves in our breakfast area, our dining room, our hallway, etc. and if we survive this spring cleaning of our office in summer, then hopefully, my great, must-have item from IKEA, will have a new home on our office wall and my kids and I will be able to use it for homeschooling and will eventually make our lives much easier. What in the world, would make us want to do all that spring cleaning in summer and also bring me so much satisfaction even before it's installed?
