Fat Albert is Dead!            05/18/2010 10:04 PM

'Fat Albert' is dead! He died yesterday during the day. In the morning we knew he wasn't doing that well. His tail looked like it had been taken off somehow and we were worried for him. We were right to be worried, he died later in the afternoon. Our son said...... 'this time it's for real,' and it was.

See, 'Fat Albert' was our son's Calico type goldfish and for all intensive purposes, he was a good fish. He liked to playing tricks on us. Many were the days that he would trick us into thinking he was dead, but in reality, he was alive and well. We often found him  floating at the top of the tank upside down and very still. We would also quite often find him stuck behind the Aquarium filter; I think he liked it there. One time in particular, my husband actually called out to my son and said, 'Oh no, your goldfish is dead;' only to stick the fish net in and see him swim away! He was rather tricky that way. This time though, I'm sad to say,  it was not a trick, he really did die.

Our son, the good boy that he is, decided we should bury Fat Albert in the backyard as we did before with his first beta fish which died several years ago. So, my husband got Fat Albert from the tank with the fish net and my son carried him outside. My husband dug a hole and my son placed Fat Albert in his grave. We covered him up with dirt, but that was not all.  My son thought that Fat Albert deserved a gravestone, so that we would always knew where he was buried.

Our whole family came to the funeral. Our son led us in prayer. First with the 'Our Father,' then with the 'Act of Contrition.' Then, we said good-bye. My son placed a brick on his gravesite and put Fat Albert's name on it with a cross and as quickly as he had entered our lives, he was gone.

My son couldn't help by feel that he will miss Fat Albert very much and I have to tell you, so will we.

Goodbye dear fishy, our family will miss you and your fun little ways! May you forever keep swimming!
