The Twilight Saga: Eclipse premiere has teens waiting for 9 hours            06/30/2010 08:44 PM

It was 7pm when I ran into Danielle, Diania, Megan, and Mary at the Stadium 16 Starplex Cinema in Corpus Christi last night. They had been waiting in line since 3 pm and were looking at another 5 hours wait just to be one of the first few to get to see The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

Not having minded camping out in the hallways of the theatre, the girls were definitely excited and were eagerly anticipating a thrilling movie experience at midnight. They weren’t the only ones! As my family and I left the theatre, the lines of Twilight fans in the hallways and out the door were staggering!

Whether your a Twilight fan or not, whether you think it is moral or not, whether its considered Christian or not, have all been debated since the beginning, but regardless of your standpoint of the film, you can’t ignore that the Twilight series is a phenomenon and is in the mainstream.

Parents who are not sure of what to make of it should consider the fact that many schools assign the Twilight books to teens as part of their schoolwork. In fact, I remember being at a South Texas Theatre last year where buses from the local school filled the parking lot. The kids were there to see Twilight: The New Moon.  I’ve talked to several parents, all whom attest to reading the books in order to ‘be in the know’ about what their kids are reading. In addition, many families, most especially those with older children, actually make a family day of seeing the films when they hit the theatre.

What’s the attraction to the Twilight films? Well, it could be the cast of actors who are easy on the eyes. I know that’s one things the girls attested to when I asked them about what attracted them to the films. It could be the story line of a modern day romance and love triangle that has teens, most especially teen girls coming back for more. Then again, it could be the way the films, adapted from Stephenie Meyer’s books, seem to get edgier and more thrilling as they go. Whatever the reason, Twilight has many in Corpus headed to the theatre today so don’t be surprised if you see an influx of Twilight fans around you this summer. The Stadium 16 Starplex Cinema has it playing on at least four different screens in order to meet demands.
